‘Maha-aarati’ to protest desecration of Sree Nandi

Kolhapur, Maharashtra State: It was noticed that the idol of ‘Nandi’ outside Shri Mahadev temple in Ichalkaranji was desecrated by miscreants. To protest against this incident, people performed ‘Maha-aarati’ in the Ganesh temple under strict police supervision.
The Mahadev temple located on the banks of Panchganga River in Ichalkaranji, is 200 years old. Outside this temple, on the plinth, there is the idol of ‘Nandi’. Two days back, it was noticed that some unidentified persons had desecrated this idol. Members of Hindu organizations then planned to perform ‘Maha-aarati’ at 7.00 p.m. at the Ganesh temple in the town. There was strict police surveillance from 5.00 p.m. at the venue. More than 200 people including leaders of Shiv Sena, BJP and other Hindu organizations attended the Maha-aarati.
