Kochi (Kerala): The Shiv Sena and the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti have called for a boycott of all kinds of celebrations in connection with V-Day. Shiv Sena Kerala chief M Bhuvanachandran said that the Sena would forcefully prevent V-Day celebrations in the state. “This celebration is against Indian culture. We have planned a series of protest demonstrations in the state on Saturday,” he said.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti distributed pamphlets in different parts of the city on Friday. Their spokesperson Sudish Puthalat urged the youth to refrain from celebrating V-Day. “The celebrations will lead to immoral behaviour.

We will not let it happen,” he said.

“In the name of celebrating V-Day, youth are being led to alcohol, drugs and lewd dances,” he said.

The Kerala Merchants’ Union has decided to call an urgent meeting of its members to decide on an action plan if some untoward incident takes place in the wake of protests from various outfits. “Moral policing is totally unwarranted. It is all politically motivated. We will ask the police to provide security to all establishments selling Valentine’s Day gift items,” said Kerala Merchants Union president L A Joshi.

Police officials said that though this year’s V-Day falls on a Saturday, the police would maintain a close watch in the city.
