Their reason is an economical one. Flesh-based society, not rooted in spiritual and cultural ‘Sanskars’, weighs everything materialistically. If something forces them to curtail the expression of their love, then that occasion is nor worthy of celebration in the first place.
Valentine’s day has no value, and no Bhartiya should celebrate it openly. Private expressions should continue, and we don’t need to wait for a particular day to display our strong bonds with our spouses.
What the western world does not understand is that love requires sacrifice. Sacrifice of one’s ego, temper, habits, and likings for the other person is needed before a true love can be called to exist between two individuals. American love is selfish. Where is love when one has celebrated 5 Valentine’s day with 7 ‘loved ones’?
There should be no Valentine’s day for unmarried people, and married people don’t need one. I am always amused to hear ‘I love you’ statements. Youngsters say this usually when their hormones dominate their minds. Love is what Sita Ji displayed towards Ram. The dimension and depth of Radha’s love even go further than Sita’s love. The unbreakable and unconditional understanding between two people does not need any outward and public expression of love. Displaying the solid bonds of love with the aid of ephemeral and trivial things actually downgrades its value and commitment.
Let us get rooted in our own culture and traditions, and stop selling ourselves to western interests and pollution.
