Are Hindus staying in India?
Rourkela: Members of Christian community in Kukuda village near Lanjiberna in Rajgangpur assembly constituency protested the move to set up a temple in the village.
Apprehending trouble a section of armed forces have been deployed at the and a case registered against 11 believers in Christianity. However, no arrest has been made yet.
Today’s protest stemmed from the trouble that erupted on Maha Shivratri when a group of Hindu women formally laid the foundation stone for a temple near a small hill, Sunaripara.
Then they were allegedly attacked and driven away by more than 100 Christians who opposed the construction as the site where the statue of Mother Mary already exists.
For an amicable solution today the Sundergarh district administration called a meeting which was attended by two members each from both the communities, tehsildar Saroj Biswal, Panposh SDPO GC Tripathy and Western Orissa organising secretary of VHP Gadadhar Sahu.
During a spot visit to find out a suitable location they had to virtually scurry for cover on being encountered by over 200 angry Christian men and women, most of them were carrying sickles and sticks.
Later, angry Christians also briefly gheraoed the Lanjiberna outpost. Tripathy said precautionary measures have been undertaken to keep peace.
