Demand by HJS with Film Censor Board
Mumbai : It has been observed from the trailer recently released of the film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ that there is distortion of history. The film is based on true characters viz. Bajirao, Kashibai and Mastaani but the way they are depicted in this film, is not only distortion of history but also an insult of noble women from royal families. This film should not therefore, be issued certificate of release, is the demand made by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS). A letter to the above effect has been sent by HJS to Censor Board’s President Pehalaj Nihalani.
It has been stated in the letter,
- It has been observed from the trailer recently released of the film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ that there is distortion of history through the song ‘Pinga’.
- In this song, Bajirao’s wife Kashibai and Mastaani have been shown as dancing together which is very objectionable.
- All Hindus and various pro-Hindu organizations are opposing this film.
- If so much of distortion is observed in trailer of this film, there could be even more distortion in the whole film.
- The controversial portions, making mockery of the brilliant history of this country should therefore, be immediately removed from this film before its release.
- During the period of Peshava, women used to be dignified and never danced with such cheap body gestures.
- Ladies followed traditions of the then royal families like Rajamata Jijau, Rani Lakshmibai, Tarabai, Rani Chennamma and have even shown valour; fighting against enemies whenever necessary.
- Bhansali from the generation of present day film makers, who make girls dance indecently and kiss even strangers, does not seem to have studied traditions followed by royal families. He has made changes in history based on his half knowledge.
- It is done only for filling own coffers by deformation of ideal family system followed by Marathas.
The descendants of Peshavas have also raised objection against this film. They have complained, ‘the film maligns the images of Bajirao Peshave, Kashibai and Mastaani. Does Bhansali know anything about the language spoken by women, their way of dressing, nobility and culture during that period? The song ‘Pinga’ is added only for entertainment value. It is very painful for us to see noble women from our family; showing their half-clad bodies.’
Bajirao Peshava is known in history, as a brave warrior of Maharashtra after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He fought 41 battles in 21 years of his regime and never lost a single battle; but the character of Bajirao has been depicted by Bhansali as restricted to only Mastaani; as a lover which is despicable. Overall, this film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ is made by Bhansali making mockery of Bajirao, the famous warrior in history. The film is strongly opposed even on social websites and many have written letter to Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
