It is shameful for a ‘strong’ country like India that terrorist groups like JeM are carrying out terrorist attacks in India at their will. Now it is high time for India to take swift and strong action to neutralise all such terrorist groups bleeding India ! – Editor, HJS website
New Delhi : Just days before the deadly fidayeen attack at the Pathankot air base, intelligence agencies listening to chatter had alerted security forces that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a terror outfit founded by Pakistan’s ISI, was planning a series of terror strikes in India.
A transcript accessed by Express says, “Jaish-e-Mohammed has got fresh cadre and we will carry out 13 terror attacks in India to avenge 13 years of Afzal Guru in jail. We are also getting unparallelled support from every quarter.” The voice identified was that of most-wanted terrorist Maulana Abdul Raoof, brother of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar. Raoof was the mastermind behind the Indian Airlines flight IC-814 hijack in 1999, which forced India to release Azhar.
Officials said they have been monitoring activities and phone numbers of JeM commanders for the last several months after they received credible inputs that JeM was recruiting fidayeen, including a special unit of women fidayeen. Express has accessed the names of several key JeM commanders and handlers responsible for reviving the outfit. These names are not known, but transcripts unmask the links between JeM and Pakistani state actors as these dreaded terrorists have been operating right under the nose of Pakistani authorities.
Intelligence agencies listening to suspicious chatter had alerted security forces that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a terror outfit founded by Pakistan’s ISI, was planning a series of terror strikes in India. It is learnt that Shafiq, Talha, Awais, Ilyas Qasmi and Rasheed are part of the JeM’s core team that is controlled by Maulana Masood Azhar and his brother Raoof. Sources had earlier revealed the identity of three Jaish handlers – Maulana Ashfaq Ahmad, Hafiz Abdul Shakur and Kasim Jan – who planned and executed the Pathankot attack last week.
“We have over 300 fidayeen in Pakistan ready to carry out attacks. We have managed to push some of our cadres into India and they are waiting to strike,” an unidentified transcript read. Shafiq’s transcripts too had alerted Indian agencies in which he is talking about impending terror attacks.
“We cannot just sit here and do nothing. We have to divide India. We have to make J&K part of Pakistan and it must be done now.”
Another transcript suggests that the JeM was struggling to deal with deserters as many fidayeen quit last year. A transcript says the JeM executed some deserters. “We killed them because they turned down jihad.” The name of Abbas, suspected to be the JeM’s training commander, also cropped up in recent intercepts. But what is more shocking is the Pakistan government’s soft attitude towards the terrorist organisation. Intelligence officials said Pakistani state actors are providing support to most wanted terrorist Masood Azhar and his team to bleed India.
Sources said the JeM’s presence in J&K cannot be ignored as they had identified five terrorists who had infiltrated via J&K last year. They are Haroon, Gazali, Saleem, Chhota Burmi and Waleed. All five were mentioned as Pakistani nationals. An official said Pakistan has allowed the JeM to operate from its sprawling, 5-acre campus in Usman O Ali, Bahawalpur, for its proxy war against India.
The feeling of suspicion grew stronger when immediately after Pathankot attack, United Jehad Council (UJC), an umbrella body of Kashmiri separatist groups, claimed responsibility for the attack. Intelligence officials said ISI was using UJC’s name to portray internationally that it is the disgruntled elements of India which are behind the terror attack and not Pakistan-based terror organisations.
