Panaji (Goa): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has appealed to the Directorate of NRI affairs to make tourists aware to stop hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by wearing clothes having the divine symbol ‘OM’ or pictures of Hindu deities printed thereon. The HJS has also appealed to the Directorate of NRI affairs to abide by the orders passed by the North Goa Collector regarding the ban on sale such clothes. The HJS has submitted a memorandum in this regard to the office of the Directorate of NRI affairs.

The memorandum says that, tourists visiting Goa are seen wearing clothes with divine symbols and pictures of Hindu deities printed on them. This is more so in the case of those frequenting beaches and crowded areas in major cities. This results in hurting of the religious sentiments of Hindus. In view of this issue, the District Collector of North Goa has issued an order, directing the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of the district to keep vigil to stop the sale of such T-shirts having pictures of Hindu deities and divine symbols, so that no untoward incidents take place due to hurting of the sentiments of Hindus. The HJS has appealed to ensure strict implementation of the said order.
