Hindus want ‘Woodstock concert’ to start with Sanskrit shlokas

Nevada (USA): Hindus have urged the organizers of “Woodstock 2009” 40th anniversary concert to start it with Hindu mantras.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that as the original 1969 Woodstock was launched with a chant of “Hari Om” by a Hindu swami, the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock in 2009 should also be started by Sanskrit shlokas in order to give it an authentic look.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism and who read the first Hindu opening prayer of United States Senate in Washington DC and various State Senates and House of Representatives/Assemblies, said that he would be glad to help the organizers if asked.

Original Woodstock music festival was held in a Bethel dairy farm in New York State on August 15-18, 1969. In this greatest event of popular music, 32 top musicians of that time appeared in front of about half-a-million audience, who included Santana, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar, etc.
