Pehalgam (Jammu & Kashmir): There is an ancient, 900 years old ‘Mamalaka Shiva –temple’ on the banks of Lider River which is always clad with snow. Owing to Islamic terrorism in Kashmir, Hindu priests left their native place and presently, Muslim priests are managing the temple. (Owing to Islamic terrorism, even though there are 80 crores Hindus in India, Muslim priests had to be engaged to manage a Hindu temple. It is misfortune of Hindus and outcome of unpardonable apathy of government. There is now no alternative for Hindus but to shed their mental lethargy and revolt ! – Editor SP) Mohammad Abdullah and Gulam Hasan, these two Muslim religious heads have still continued the custom of ‘aarati’ in this temple after Kashmiri Hindus had to migrate from Kashmir. In olden times, there was lodging facility available in this temple for devotees who used to undertake Amarnath pilgrimage.

The temple was built by Raja Jayasurya. The local Hindu organisations used to look after the management of this temple with Radhakishen as the main priest. In the year 1989, he left Kashmir and the management of the temple was assigned to Archaeology Department and Museum of the State. Before leaving the place, Radhakishen took an assurance from his friend, Abdul Bhat to keep the temple open for devotees and look after the same. Abdul Bhat also left the place in the year 2004 till then he managed the temple. Since the year 2004, the above mentioned Muslims are managing the temple.
