Rakhis removed in School: Principal alleges use of force to take sign on apology letter
Kankon (Goa): Devout Hindus asked for an explanation from the Principal of ‘St. Sebastian High School’ at Kankon for forcibly removing ‘raakhis’ tied by Hindu boys on the occasion of ‘Raakhi – Pournima’. Now, Ms. Priscilla Pinto, the Principal of the school has alleged in an interview given by her to a newspaper ‘Herald’ that the members of the organization forced her to write an apology letter and took her signature on the same. Devout Hindus have, however, refuted the charges leveled against them.
The delegation of devout Hindus that visited the school has said that the Principal had accepted that she had made a mistake by cutting ‘raakhis’ tied by Hindu boys and the delegation had demanded an apology letter from her assuring them that such incidents would not occur in future. She had, in fact, asked them as to what should be written in the letter and the members had advised her, the matter expected in an apology letter. No kind of pressure was exerted. Shiv Sena, Divya Jagruti Trust, Amma Bhagawan, Ranaragini, Dharma-shakti Sena, Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had made a demand with the Education Director to take action against the said school and the Director, Pinto had assured to take action.
The principal of the school Priscilla Pinto has told ‘Herald’ that the matter has been given undue importance due to selfish interests. The delegation is of the view that the Principal has made such statements to avoid action by the Government but the Government should conduct a detailed inquiry in the matter.

Principal renders apology as enraged Hindus demand explanation
Kankon (Goa): The principal of St. Sebastian High School at Lolaye, Kankon cut out the ‘raakhis’ tied by Hindu boys on the day of ‘Raksha-bandhan’. Devout Hindus and organizations like Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), Sanatan Sanstha and Dharma-shakti Sena took the principal of the school, Priscilla to task. Later, the principal gave a letter on behalf of the school rendering apology. (Congratulations to devout Hindus and Hindu organizations demanding explanation from the principal of the convent school for removing ‘raakhis’ tied by Hindu boys! – Editor SP)
When devout Hindus went to the school in the morning, a Hindu woman working in the school came forward to defend the school. She asked them what proof they had that the ‘raakhis’ were removed by the school. Mr. Shantaji Gaokar, retired principal of Baneshwar School told her, “The students and the secret agency have told us. Do you not believe in even the secret agency?” This quietened the woman. Mr. Gaokar asked as to why the ‘raakhis’ were taken out since ‘Raksha-bandhan’ is a festival celebrated all over the country. He told that the school’s such action has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.
Mrs. Shubha Sawant from ‘Ranaragini’ group told that every person, under the Indian Constitution, has a right to observe customs and traditions as prescribed in his Dharma. In the meanwhile, Principal Priscilla came there. She too was not initially ready to accept that ‘raakhis’ were forcibly removed. But when it was pointed out to her that the news about the same was published in the newspaper, she accepted it and showed her readiness to render apology. She said that the boys were playing with the ‘raakhis’ and therefore, they were asked to remove them. (If Christian children are found playing with the cross worn by them and the teachers from their school pull out the cross, will it be ok? – Editor SP)
At that time, Mr. Ramchandra Naik, another teacher joined them. He said that the issue was not very important. (Hindus do not think that the attacks taking place on Dharma is a serious matter. Hindus say such things because they do not have knowledge about matters related to Dharma and as such, they do not feel proud of their Dharma! – Editor SP) The devout Hindus therefore, reproved him. Later, those boys were called to the office whose ‘raakhis’ were cut out and the teachers tied ‘raakhis’ for them. The school authority also gave a letter to HJS that it was their mistake to ask the student to remove ‘raakhis’ on the auspicious day of ‘Raksha-bandhan’ rendering apology with an assurance to avoid such things in future.
