Congress’ double standard – Firm on not allowing women in Sabarimala temple, Kerala and demand entry for women in Maharashtra ?
Mumbai : Row created over allowing women to enter temple sanctum at Shani Shingnapur’s Shani temple is vain and it is informed that the matter has now been taken to the Chief Minister because meeting between district collector, trustees of Shani Shingnapur temple and agitating organizations has failed to find solution. This issue is not related to women emancipation but it is religious; therefore, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has made an appeal that before taking any decision in this connection, the Chief Minister should seek guidance from experts in the field of religious matters (such as Shankaracharya from 4 ‘Peethas’, Dharmacharyas, Kashi Vidvat Parishada etc.).
Matter related to women’s entry in Sabarimala temple of Kerala is pending in Supreme Court. The Court asked for State Government’s opinion and the Congress Government of Kerala clearly stated in its affidavit that the tradition of not allowing women from the age group of 10 yrs to 50 yrs should be continued to be followed. It is however, surprising that the same Congress is insisting for women’s entry in Shani Shingnapur; why should there be such double-standard? In case of Shani Shingnapur, Trustee Board of Shani Shingnapur Devasthan, Shani Shingnapur Grampanchayat, local residents and millions of devotees have taken a stand that the age-old tradition should not be broken. Recently, ‘Gram-sabha’ was held in which resolution was passed to continue old tradition. It is therefore, hoped that BJP Government, elected on Hindus’ votes, would certainly consider sentiments of devotees, local residents and Board of Trustees. In last 400 years, neither the Mughal, nor the British nor Congress rulers who carried over from them, so also Saints from Maharashtra ever thought of breaking such tradition; therefore, ‘Hindutvavadi’ Government should not fall prey to pressurization tactic used by progressive factions, digging own grave and the Chief Minister should not take any anti-Dharma decision under pressure, is the appeal made by HJS.
