Nellore (Andra Pradesh): The mortals remains of Dr P Subramanyam, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, who was killed in the chopper crash in Kurnool district on Wednesday, were laid to rest, with State honours in Chemudugunta village in Venkatachlama mandal, today.


Earlier, the coffin containing the body of Subramanyam was brought in a procession, from his home in Gudipallipadu in Nellore rural mandal to the funeral site, 10 km away. The last rites were performed as per the Christian religion.

Bereaved family members, relatives, friends and a host of district officials led by collector K Ramgopal, accompanied the body. Senior officers from others states who are batchmates od Subrahmanyam in IAS, including Parasurma from Bihar, Venkataiah of Karnataka as well as Danakishaore, K Raju, Vijayakumar all IAS from the State also took part in the last journey of the official killed in the copter crash.

Former CPRO of South Central Railway P Krishnaiah was also present.

Earlier, the body of Subramanayam arrived here by Simhapuri Express today morning from Hyderabad. His wife Margaret Vijaya, daughter Samhita and son Sadharma accompanied the body which was taken to his home in Gudipallipadu where a large number of people including friends and relatives of Subramanyam, officials, relatives paid their last respects to the departed soul. Many friends of Subramanyam recalled the avuncular nature, his concern for poor and his social service activities through `Friends Association’, founded by him.
