Get ‘prasad’ prepared for Shri Mahalakshmi Mandir from devotees instead of women prisoners : Representation submitted to Dy. District Collector
Kolhapur : Atmosphere of prison is not only unhealthy but is also Tama predominant from spiritual point of view. Dr. Amit Saini, District Collector and President of Mandir Committee, without discussing the matter with anyone, took one-sided decision of getting ‘prasad’ of ‘laddoos’ for Shri Mahalaskhmi Mandir made from women-prisoners. He didn’t take even devotees in confidence. Such ‘prasad’ should be obtained from devotees who have faith in Shri Mahalakshmi Devi rather than women- prisoners. A representation to the above effect was submitted to Dy. District Collector Shri. Barge by delegation of pro-Hindu activists led by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti; comprising of Shri. Sambhaji Salunkhe, its city-Chief Shri. Mahesh Ursal, Hindu Ekata’s Shri. Shivajirao Sase, devout Hindus Shri. Dnyaneshwar Asawle, Shri. Akshay Valke, Shiv Sena- Yuva Sena’s Shri. Ranajit Ayarekar, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Shri. Madhukar Nazare, Shri. Suresh Ghatge, Shri. Shivanand Swami etc. The representation is in the name of State Chief Minister.
Demands made through representation
1. Mandir Samiti should not get ‘prasad’ made from women-prisoners; but it should be made by devotees since they are ‘Sattva’-pre-dominant and they would do it as ‘service’ unto the Deity.
2.There are several women’s groups active in Kolhapur who have faith in Shri Mahalakshmi Devi and will willingly prepare ‘prasad’ by following all rules of sanctity. The temple management should consider that option for getting seva done from them.
Kolhapur : HJS objects to idea of allowing prisoners to make prasad
February 25, 2016
Kolhapur : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has objected to the idea of giving the work of making ladoos, the prasad given to devotees visiting Mahalaxmi temple, to women prisoners lodged in Kalamba central prison.
The idea was recently discussed during a meeting of Paschim Maharashtra Devasthan Samiti (PMDS) that manages Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur. A delegation of organisations, including Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, will meet Kolhapur district collector Amit Saini on Thursday to raise their objections in this regard.
The Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has objected to the idea of giving the work to jail inmates. “We are aware that district administration has not taken the decision to give work of making prasad to prisoners. We are objecting on behalf of devotees and demand that the process of making prasad should be done as per religious norms,” said Sunil Ghanwat, Maharashtra convenor of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti.
He added, “The prisoners are criminals and serving jail term for crime they committed. If they prepare prasad, their thoughts will get mix in the prasad; thereby affecting the devotees. Also, the environment in the jail is not hygienic, which will affect the quality of prasad. Religious norms dicatate that prasad should be made by devotees having faith in God so that it becomes satvik (pure). The district collector should consult the religious authorities before taking such decision.”
