Pastor gets 40 years in jail for raping Thrissur minor girl

Thrissur : A court here has sentenced a pastor to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

The court had on Monday convicted Sanil K. James (40), a native of Kuttickal near Karukachal in Kottayam district, of committing the crime during the school vacation of 2014.

Justice K.P. Sudheer of a special court set up to stop atrocities against children pronounced the quantum of sentence.

The case is that Sanil raped a 12-year-old girl inside the Salvation Army church at Peechi in Thrissur in April 2014. The case was registered by Peechi police and the chargesheet was submitted by CI A. Umesh. the police investigated the case based on a complaint filed by Thrissur child welfare committee.

Another case has been registered against the Sanil on charges of raping a girl belonging to Scheduled Castes. Trial in this case is yet to start.
