Philips removed Denigration of Lord Ganesh partialy from its advertisement

In the Marathi daily newspaper ‘Maharashtra Times’ dated 19th August, an advertisement was published by Phillips Company for its ‘DVD Hi-Fi System’ in which mockery was made of Sri Ganesh. Hindu Jana-jagruti Samiti registered a protest against this advertisement at the Company’s offices in the States of Maharashtra and Goa.

Now the Company’s advertisement published in the local newspaper for its ‘Music System’, mentions ‘Om Ganeshaya Namah’ instead of ‘Om Lambakarnaya Namah’ whereas the Ad. in Maharashtra Times has been published without such sentence and picture denigrating Sri Ganesh published earlier has also been replaced with a better picture of Sri Ganesh; but no change has been carried out in the sentence ‘Play music that pleases big ears of Ganapati’. The Goa zone of HJS had appealed to the distributors of Phillips at Panaji and Ponda for withdrawing the denigrating advertisement. It was also warned that if the Ad is not withdrawn, agitation will be intensified which could have adverse effect on the sales of theCompay. The representation was signed by more than 100 persons from various fields like Chartered Accountants, Correspondents hailing from the main cities, members of political parties like Shiv Sena etc. and some of the spiritual organizations like Sanatan sanstha and ‘Shree Sampradaya’. At Madgaon, two distributors of the Company refused to accept the representation but agreed that the advertisement did ridicule Sri Ganesh.

After giving the representation, Dr. Manoj Solanki, the Spokesperson of HJS for Goa was contacted by an official of the Company and acknowledged receipt of the representation. He further said that 90% of the staff of the Company was Hindu. The Company has taken a note of the representation and made changes in the advertisement. Dr. Solanki told the official that the Company should give in writing that in future, it would not publish advertisement denigrating Hindu deities which was agreed to by the official of the Company.
