Panaji (Goa): The Congress today toned down its demand for ban on Hindu right-wing organisation Sanatan Sanstha after two of its members were found to be involved in the Margao bomb blast on Diwali-eve.
"Any institution has good and bad people. We should punish the bad people rather than blaming the institution," Congress senior leader and Goa&aposs Lok Sabha member Fransisco Sardinha told reporters at the party office here.
The statement attains significance as Chief Minister Digamber Kamat had yesterday said that the organisation will not be banned as of now.
"We are not thinking of banning the Sanatan at this point of time. Till the investigation is over,"he had said.
Sardinha, a former chief minister of Goa, however, said today that"if the foundation of the Sanstha is found to be preaching bad values then we need to act against it".
He also said that the functioning of state police needs to be improved to handle such kind of crisis.
" There is no need to have special cell for countering terrorism activities. What you need are specially trained people within the force to tackle these exigencies,"the MP said.
