Kanakumbi (Karnataka) : Karnataka Government undertook digging of canal which led to destruction of 3 historical ponds, known as source of Devasthan’s ‘Malprabha’ on 3rd April. Owing to cracks developed while digging, in tiles laid on ceiling, the meeting-hall of this temple has already been destroyed. The ancient mango-tree at this place has also been removed.

Karnataka Niravari Nigam has undertaken the work of joining ‘Kalsa’ canal with ‘Malprabha’ canal since past 1-1/2 to 2 months and has been digging a canal, on war-footing, at Kanakumbi. The construction work has put existence of Shri Mauli Temple and surrounding area of this temple in jeopardy. A complaint was lodged by residents of Kanakumbi with officers of Karnataka Niravari Nigam; in the presence of Khanapur’s MLA Shri. Arvind Patil; but their complaint was completely ignored and digging and construction work was continued. As a result, holy ponds of this temple and source of Malprabha have been destroyed. Activists of ‘Save Mhadai Project’ Shri. Rajendra Kerkar and Shri. Chandrakant Shinde, President of ‘Vivekanand Paryavaran Jagruti Fauz’ visited Kanakumbi village and inspected whole destruction. Last week, a group of activists from Goa also visited this place and noted wrongdoings of Karnataka Government.
