300-year-old Hindu idol stolen in Nepal

Kathmandu:
A 300-year-old gold-coated idol of Hindu deity Laxminarayan has been stolen from Patan Durbar Square in Nepal, police said.

The idol of Laxminarayan, placed above a traditional stone water fountain located at the centre of Sundari Chowk in the Patan Durbar square area, was stolen on Thursday.

Patan Durbar square area is a major tourist attraction near the capital city and is a part of UNESCO world heritage site.

The idol was a master-piece stone work created centuries ago.

It is believed that the idol was stolen through one of the windows of the old palace which is being renovated.

The shrine is currently undergoing?renovation since last month.

The 6 inch by 9 inch idol was made by the orders of then king of Patan Siddhi Narsingh Malla more than 300 years ago.
