Panaji : Goa is a land of Deities (Deva-bhoomi) but Congress Government brought perversion in the form of casinos. BJP Government calls itself as follower of traditions and had promised to adopt anti-casino policy after coming in power; but now, we have to say with regret that it has sowed such western perverted culture in Goa. It is a conspiracy of patrons of casinos to convert Goa into Macau (A city known for gambling). Casinos have put Goa’s existence in danger and it is the need of the hour that Goa should be made free of casino and original culture of Goa should be protected. The above demand was made by Ranaragini with the State Government.
BJP which had promised to shift floating casino from Mandvi to Arabian Sea after elected to power, has now not only granted permission for fifth floating casino, Royal Hotel in Mandvi River but also extended licence of other 4 casinos till 2017. If casino culture is rooted by BJP Government in Goa, future dangers need to be looked into. Casinos are encouraging gambling and citizens becoming addicts. After losing everything in gambling at casinos, person gets motivated to commit suicide. Many such incidents have been published in newspapers from time to time. Recently, there was news about women from such distressed families taking up the matter with BJP MLAs. Casinos make people addict to get easy money without putting hard work; creates wrong ‘sanskars’ on future generation taking them to destruction. Gambling also promotes wrongs like prostitution, consumption of liquor, teasing of women etc. It also helps in using counterfeit currency and generates black money leading to increase in crimes. It can destroy culture of Goawhich is known as ‘Deva-bhoomi’. Intense agitations will be staged if collecting taxes by playing with life of citizens is no stopped.
Demands made by Ranaragini
1. Goa State should be made free of casinos.
2. Quash the amendments made to ‘Gambling Prevention Act of 1976’ made for granting permits to casinos in sea and hotels.
3. There is ban on advertisements of consumption of liquor and smoking; similar ban should be imposed on advertisements of casinos under ‘Goa gambling Prevention Act, 1976’.
