Education Board cannot even prepare text books properly !
Mumbai : Maharashtra State Education Board has shown Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK) separately in the map in its geography text book for tenth standard. Population of this area has not been indicated either. Such major mistake which was found in last edition is continued even in the new edition. Several mistakes have been found in this book and there is repetition of mistakes which were there earlier, even in new edition published for new academic year. There are total 55 mistakes including grammatical mistakes, wrong references, new mistakes etc.
Few of the mistakes are given below.
1. On page no. 30, it has been stated that Bikaner is the biggest market of wool in Asia; whereas on second page, it is stated to be the biggest market in the world.
2. On page 30, Sambhar Lake has been mentioned as the biggest salt-lake in India and on page 75, this honour has been given to Lake Chilka.
3. On page 41, length of river-basin of Ganga has been given as 1050 kms and on the same page at some other place, its length has been given as 550 kms and length of central river-basin is indicated as 600 kms; total of which comes to 1150 kms. Length of lower reach of the river has not been mentioned.
Shri. Gangadhar Mhamane, President of State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board said in this connection that the Board had earlier told teachers to bring mistakes to the notice of the Board so that they can be rectified. (It is expected of the Board to take care and avoid mistakes, then why should it depend on others ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
