Simhastha Parva : Advertisement of intoxicating products displayed by a famous ‘Kathavachak’ from UP

Advertisements displayed in marquee of intoxicating products

Ujjain : Devotees visit Sadhus – Saints during Simhastha-Parva for obtaining knowledge, devotion, detachment and liberation. There are many Saints, Mahants, Akharas and ‘Kathakars’ etc. who have erected marquees at the venue and they guide people through their story-telling, discourses, conferences etc. Among them is a renowned ‘Kathavachak’ from Uttar Pradesh who had displayed hoardings, advertising products like different brands of ‘Gutkhas’ e.g. ‘Vimal Pan Masala’, ‘Shimla Pan Masalal’, Bambaiya Mouth-fresh etc. and advertisements like Dabang Duniya, Hotel Win-way. In the name of ‘Katha’, many hotels were set up and people used to wonder whether any ‘Katha-program’ was really held there or they were just eateries. In the first and second heavy rains, this marquee was totally destroyed.
