Prisoners from Kalamba prison to make ‘prasad laddu’ !
Kolhapur : Devotees of Karveernivasini Shri Mahalakshmidevi will regularly get ‘prasad laddu’ from 16th May; but the cost of ‘laddu’ has been increased by Rs. 3 and it will now be available to devotees for Rs. 8. Earlier, it was available for Rs. 5. These ‘prasad laddus’ will be made by prisoners from Kalamba prison and they will get paid for the job. Pro-Hindu organizations have registered protest against giving ‘prasad laddus’ to devotees which are made by prisoners.
There were arguments since past few months over what item should be given to devotees going to Shri Mahalakshmi Temple for ‘darshan’. District Collector had expressed his opinion that devotees should be given ‘prasad of laddu’ to be made by prisoners; however, pro-Hindu organizations had opposed giveng ‘prasad of laddu’ made by prisoners as it wouldn’t maintain sanctity of the temple. Finally, Amit Saini, the District Collector who is also the Chairman of Pashchim Maharashtra Devasthan Vyavasthapan Samiti (PMDVS) decided to give ‘prasad laddus’ to devotees and PMDVS is going to implement his instructions. Order has been placed with prison management for supplying ‘laddus’ and from 16th May, prison management will provide ‘laddus’ to PMDVS from 16th May, in packets, for Rs. 7 per piece and PMDVS will sell it to devotees for Rs.8 as ‘prasad’.
