Shimoga (Karnataka): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti held a protest to make singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ compulsary at all primary and medium schools in Karnataka State. Protest was held on 19 December 2009 at 11 am at the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Shimoga.
During the time of British rule in India it was the song ‘Vande Mataram’ which created total Awareness and Unity among Indians. It was the song which developed Emotion and pride for Nation and thereby creating a Atmosphere of freedom throughout India.

The protest was started with Slogans. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Sanatan Sanstha, RSS, Bajrang Dal, Students and activists of various organisation actively participated in the protest. Three students and other Activist talked on necessity and compulsion of Vande Mataram at schools. Mrs. Leela Sridhar of HJS handed over the Memorandum of protest through Deputy Commissioner to the Chief Minister Karnataka.
Mr. Venkatraman Naik, State convener of Dharmshakti Sena read the Resolutions passed during the recent Dharmajagruti sabha held at Shimoga at Science Ground on 12 December 2009, And requested DC to handover the memorandum to the CM at the earliest possible. Nearly 40 devout Hindus participated in the protest.
Later protest was ended with singing ‘Vande Mataram’. After the protest all devout Hindus gathered togetheir and discussed to held protest to stop denigration of deities through advertisement in next week.
