Hindus welcome idea of Meditation Room at Ohio University

Hindus have welcomed the reported efforts of planning an Interfaith Meditation Room at Ohio University (OU) campus in Athens by its International Student Union (ISU) in the fall semester.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that an interfaith space in the shape of Meditation Room would be a step in the positive direction for OU. Many educational institutions in USA and Canada already had prayer/meditation room for quiet reflection and spiritual exercise.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that with the presence of Meditation Room, OU students would have a spiritually meaningful life in addition to material success after they graduate from here. Meditation Room would be another feather in OU’s cap in making it a top class and wholesome university.

Moreover, OU needed to recognize the intersection of spirituality and education, Rajan Zed added.

Opened in 1808, OU, a major US public research university, ranked among “top 3 percent of higher education institutions globally” and its “vision” includes to “be the nation’s best transformative learning community”. Sandra J. Anderson is Trustees Chair while Dr. Roderick J. McDavis is the President.

ISU at OU claims to unite “member organizations representing many countries, cultures and causes from around the globe”. It is an umbrella organization for 23 international organizations at OU and its members represent “collective educational, cultural, and developmental interests of over 100 countries”. Hashim Pashtun is the President.
