Yoga is not just physical exercise; but merging with God is ‘Yoga’ : Dr. Mallick

Dr. Kaushik Chandra Mallick

Yoga is not just physical exercise but trying to merge with God is ‘Yoga’, said Dr. Kaushik Chandra Mallick, a member of ‘Shaastra Dharma Prachar Sabha’ in guidance on ‘Yoga’ with ‘Om’ arranged during the fifth all-India Hindu Convention, on the occasion of ‘International Yoga-Day’.

Dr. Mallick said, “On 21st June, ‘Uttarayana’ ends and ‘Dakshinayana’ begins. It is an ideal day for starting anything. The Government has declared this day as ‘International Yoga Day’. There can be only beginning for ‘Yoga’ but no end. Yoga is not something to be done for a day but it is to be practised throughout the year. Yoga is a part of Hindu culture; however, it is portrayed that it is not of Hindus but it is of all. When Yoga is practised with chanting, then only it is beneficial. Just doing it at physical level does not give any benefit. Communion with God is Yoga and ‘Yoga’ is not only physical exercise. Yoga is meeting with God. When ‘Yoga’ is studied, practised in right manner, it can open God’s door for us. If God’s door is not getting opened, it is not Yoga. Yoga helps a person to reach the highest pinnacle.”
