New York’s Rubin Museum showcasing Hindu deities

Rubin Museum of Art in New York is exhibiting various Hindu deities in it “Rain and Ritual” exhibition, which will continue till March 27 next.

Deities exhibited reportedly include Lakshmi (17th century), Krishna (19th century), Durga (12th-13th century), Bhairava (16th century), Kumara (11th century), etc.

This exhibition, curated by Gautama V. Vajracharya with the assistance of Elena Pakhoutova, is reportedly partly funded by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

Commending Rubin Museum for showcasing Hindu deities;distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged major art museums of the world, including Musee du Louvre and Musee d’Orsay of Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Los Angeles Getty Center, Uffizi Gallery of Florence (Italy), Tate Modern of London, Prado Museum of Madrid, National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, etc., to frequently organize Hindu art focused exhibitions, thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world.

Since opening in 2004, Rubin Museum has welcomed over 1.4 million visitors and presented over 100 exhibitions. Robert M. Baylis is Board President, while Patrick Sears is the Executive Director.
