HYDERABAD: The Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha Trust on Monday announced that it would set up an Institute for Hindu Studies in Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu in the name SASTRA (Shanmuga Academy of Arts, Science and Technology) to promote research in the religion’s glorious heritage.
This was one of the resolutions passed at the 4th Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha held here, said trust convener Swamy Dayananda Saraswati.
Resolutions
At a briefing on the concluding day, he said other resolutions included an appeal to people not to encourage dowry system, improving management of festivals and pilgrimages by preventing accidents, improving health and sanitation around temples and encouraging teaching of Sanskrit in all schools.
Managing temples
He said the Sabha was also of the view that temples that came under the Endowments Department but were not run properly, could be handed to the devotees themselves. There were several examples of temples being run by local committees he said, adding that ‘archaka’ training was also an integral part of the Sabha’s agenda.
Another issue that was discussed was the damaging manner in which ‘Hinduism’ was defined in the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, Swamy Dayananda said.
The Trust had written to the publishers seeking a change and were yet to get a response.
If need be, he said they were prepared to proceed legally for justice.
