Magh Suddha Ashtami, Kaliyug Varsha 5111
VARANASI: The local unit of Shiv Sena in association with Hindu Janjagriti Samiti has started a campaign to stop dishonouring of National Flag during Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations.
Responding to the appeal, ADM (city) has directed the city magistrate and additional city magistrates to look into the matter with the help of the police and act appropriately.
In their appeal, they have referred to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act,1971 that prohibits desecration of or insult to the country’s national symbols, including the flag, constitution, and anthem.
They said there is a new trend of selling flags made up of paper and plastic, which is incorrect. With a sense of national pride, people enthusiastically buy such flags but the very next day, these flags are found on roads and in dustbins. Often, these flags are burnt along with garbage. It is the duty of every individual to maintain proper respect of the National Flag. We have also arranged banners and pamphlets to create awareness among the people, said Gulshan Kapoor, the district chief of Shiv Sena.
