Surat : Police arrested a 20-year-old youth on Saturday for allegedly abetting suicide of a girl college student. The girl ended life by jumping in Tapi river on Wednesday and her body was found on Friday.
Police arrested Moin Hussainkhan Pathan, resident of Hedgewar Nagar in Udhna, for allegedly abetting suicide of Dipika Khatri, a resident of Godadara area. Dipika’s father Pravin lodged the complaint in police on Saturday. Police booked Moin based on the suicide note of Dipika and complaint of her father. Moin is student of second year bachelor of commerce (BCom) in DRB College while Dipika was in third year of BCom in same college.
Earlier on Wednesday, Dipika, went to ONGC Magdalla Bridge in an auto rickshaw and jumped into river Tapi. She made call to her father borrowing phone from the auto rickshaw driver and informed him about her intention to commit suicide. Before her father could reach and save her she had already jumped. Her father had informed fire officials but the body was not found then.
The body washed into the Tapi river during high tide and fished out on Friday from near Muglisara area. While jumping in the river Dipika handed over a suicide note to the auto rickshaw driver. In the note she wrote that Moin shot her obscene video and took photos at a hotel room in a waterpark. She further claimed in the note that Moin shared the photos and video with his friends.
