Memorandum submitted to Governor of Odisha by Hindu organisations

To,

Shri S. C. Jamir, Honourable Governor of Odisha

Excellency,

Panun Kashmir represents the geo-political aspirations of more than seven hundred thousand displaced Kashmiri Hindus who are living as refugees in their own country for last 24 years. Kashmiri Pandits became the victims of the Jehadi terrorism in 1990. Unfortunately, the continued denial of their sufferings by the successive governments at center as well as in state has forced them out of the collective memory of the people of this country. Today, most of the country men express ignorance about the national catastrophe that struck this country in 1990. The hard fact remains in our country Kashmir is now perceived only as a trouble spot perpetuated by the inimical forces across the border. While this may be true but in the process the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus has become a forgotten chapter.

The religious cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus is a highly inconvenient truth facing the country. Their mass exodus challenges some of the basic edifices on which the secular democratic structures of this country have been built. The Indian State has only two options while responding to the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits. It, either accepts the tragedy, or demolishes the sacrosanct myths created by the basic tenants of its constitution or simple give it a blind eye. Unfortunately, till now it has chosen the later.

The continued displacement of Kashmir Pandits represents a greatest constitutional failure of successive governments at both center as well as state.

Kashmiri Pandits are equally sure about the fact that if the present government with its massive mandate isn’t able to create suitable conditions for their return then no other dispensation can do so.

Appeal

ON behalf of over seven hundred thousand displaced Kashmiri Pandits, Panun Kashmir appeals to your honest conscience to understand the issue of Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits dispassionately and convey this to the President and Prime Minister of India.
