Goa Govt. revokes NOC to music fest ‘Chakraview’

Panaji (Goa): Bowing to pressure from the moral brigade, Right-wing Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and a BJP legislator, the district administration on Thursday revoked permission to the Chakraview festival — a three day art, music and cultural festival — that was to take place on a private property in South Goa.

"I have revoked permissions based on the police reports, the reactions from public, from the local MLA, while some organisations gave representations and we did not want a law and order problem," district deputy collector Dipak Dessai told this newspaper.

Both the police and collector’s office had initially cleared the festival, but changed their mind when a media campaign began demonising the festival, dubbing it as a rave and trance party where drugs could "possibly" be sold.

Billed as "the first ecological music festival in the most beautiful jungle of Agonda", the limited entry festival was set to bring in international and Indian DJs of electronic and new age music to Goa. The organisers refrained from commenting.

Rave Party organized at Agonda, Canacona attracts strong criticism across Goa

Goans will not tolerate such glorification of perversity; need to put a ban on the Party – HJS

Panaji (Goa): A Rave Party in the name of ‘Chakra View festival’ has been organized on the butterfly beach at Agonda, Canacona, 80 km south of Panaji. This party will begin at 6 am on Friday (Feb 5) and finish at 12 am on Sunday (Feb 7). This party has attracted strong criticism across the state.  The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s (HJS) Mr. Jayesh Thali has warned the government that Goans will not tolerate such glorification of perversity and demanded to put ban on the party.

The organizers of this festival are advertising the event at the international level on their website www.chakraviewfestival.com. According to sources, leading exponents of music from Israel, Russia, Belgium, Italy, UK, Hungary, etc would feature music ranging from reggae, rock, African drums, etc, without a break for three days. People of Goa feel that smoking, liquor sale as well as drug sale will be rampant during this event.  MLA of  Canacona Shri. Vijay Pai Khot, prominent citizens of Canacona and the state have also objected to the said party. In this context, a point to be noted is that the Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha organized by the HJS at Agonda, Canacona was prohibited by the Goa police and the administration in the name of law and order situation, in spite of obtaining prior permissions. Does the Goa Police and the administration that is against Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabhas that spread religious education and respect for culture and religion among Hindus want programmes that create chaos and result in the denigration of culture also that leads to the purchase and sale of liquor and drugs?

The said rave party has now come under police scanner. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Ravindra Singh Yadav, also said that the anti-narcotics cell and the district police have been instructed to keep a sharp eye for drugs or psychotropic substances sold near the festival venue. "I have asked them (subordinates) to check whether there are any illegalities. If we find any illegality, we will stop the party," Yadav told a reporter in Panaji. Chief minister Shri. Digamber Kamat has said that if permission is given to the party then it will be withdrawn.
