Solapur (Maharashtra): A representation was submitted by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) to the Railway Administration demanding cancellation of the surcharge levied on the ticket of pilgrims going to ‘Kumbh Mela’. The representation was accepted by Mr. Durgesh Katara, a senior Manager (Commerce) and he assured to immediately convey the demands of HJS to his higher ups. Mr. Yashapal Wadkar, Ramesh Aawar, Bheemsingh Rajput of HJS along with 25 devout Hindus were present on the occasion.

‘Kumbh Mela’ is a very auspicious period revered by Hindus and several Hindus travel by train to take part in the ‘Mela’. It is expected of the Railway Administration to extend cooperation to these pilgrims, when on the contrary, Railway is levying Rs 3 to 15 as surcharge over the tickets. This is injustice and the Railway Administration must re-consider the same. In fact, poor Hindus who want to take the benefit of ‘Kumbh Mela’ should be allowed to travel free and the Hindu travelers should get facilities, were the demands mentioned in the representation.
