Pune : Celebration of ‘Dahi Handi’ festival on the occasion of ‘Gokulashtami’ has taken perverted form. This year, prizes of millions of rupees are announced and film stars are invited for such programs by many festival committees; which is destroying the sanctity of this festival. 1. Big banners advertising of ‘Dahi-handi’ festival displayed in every nook and corner have spoilt beauty of the area.
2. Many rising leaders have formed own ‘Dahi Handi- Mandals’ due to which there will be ‘Dahi-handi’ in very close vicinities.
3. Preparations are on for tall ‘Dahi-handis’, big programs, ‘laser shows’ etc. Most of the festival committees have announced prizes of Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 25 lakhs.
