It is so pathetic that despite law banning cow-slaughter, march has to be taken out for demands !
Akola : A march was taken out to protest against proposed Alwafi slaughter-house on the road leading towards ‘Kashi’ of Jains, Baladevi Sansthan and road to Shegaon where devotees go for ‘darshan’ of Saint Gajanan Maharaj demanding for cancellation of proposal for construction of slaughter-house. The march was led by Jain Sadhvi H. H. Preetidharmashri ji, Adhithana -7 and H. H. Sthanakvasi Vishuddhiji Mahasati- Adhithana- 4. Chief office bearers of various social and religious organizations and thousands of activists were present on the occasion. The march was started from Jain Mandir and concluded at District Collector’s office. A representation was submitted to Dy. District Collector Shrikant Deshpande; requesting him to make the Government aware about the agitation.
Likelihood of slaughtering of hundreds of cows/ cattle !
The proposed slaughter-house will process 68,000 kgs of meat every day and it is feared that hundreds of cows would be slaughtered for the purpose. Balapur Town Council granted permission for the slaughter-house in its general body meeting. While seeking permission, it has been stated that the slaughter-house would have only hens, old buffaloes and goats; but considering the present situation, likelihood of slaughtering of cows/ cattle seems to be quite high since other animals are not available as per requirement. Slaughter-house will cause problem for environment and hurt religious and cultural sentiments of citizens; therefore, they are demanding that permission should not be granted.
