Civil suit against Times of India for damages in connection with defaming Sanatan Sanstha

Ponda (Goa): Daily English newspaper Times of India (TOI) published an article under title ‘For this cult, critics and demons’ in its issue dated 20th June 2016; defaming Sanatan Sanstha despite knowing its fast growing mission and good image it has in society. Such defamation has created immense loss to Sanatan Sanstha; therefore, Shri. Virendra Marathe, Management Trustee of Sanatan Sanstha has filed a civil suit in Civil Court at Ponda, Goa against the above newspaper’s Editor, owner, printers and publishers through Sanstha’s honorary legal advisor, Shri. Ramdas Kesarkar, claiming Rs. 10 crores, by way of damages.

On 11.7.2016, a legal notice was issued to the editor, owner, printer and publisher of this newspaper demanding Rs. 10 crores, as compensation but they had refused to comply; therefore, Shri. Virendra Marathe filed a civil suit through advocates Gajanan Naik, Nagesh Takbhate, Kum. Deepa Tiwari and Ramdas Kesarkar against TOI’s Editor, Joy Purkayastha, its owners Bennett and Colman Co; its printers and publishers Ranajit Jagadale for payment of damages of Rs. 10 crores with Civil Judge (senior level) at Ponda, Goa.
