Pandharpur : Devotees should immerse Shri Ganesh idols in flowing water instead of falling prey to false propaganda of atheists, was the appeal made by Shri. Manoj Khadye, western Maharashtra Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) during a press conference held on 30th August at ‘Savarkar Vachanalaya’. Shri. Rajan Bunage, District Coordinator of HJS for Solapur, advocates Nilesh Sangolkar and Sandip Apsingekar, members of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad (HVP) were present.

Shri. Khadye said

1. All religious festivals of Hindus are complementary to environment. It has been stated in ‘Pujasamuchhaya’, a holy book that Shri Ganesh idols should be immersed in flowing water; so, there is no problem of pollution. HJS has been creating awareness on this subject for past 15 years; but at many places, the Government promotes immersion in artificial water tanks though it is anti-‘Dharma shaastra’. In Pandharpur also, appeal is made to immerse idols in artificial trench dug for the purpose and such ditches are made in the river basin. HJS strongly opposes such things.

2. At some places, municipalities take out immersed idols and carry them in garbage vans thus denigrating the Deity; later throwing them in river water. Such incidents were exposed by media through video-posts. Why then such ploy is hatched to loot people in the name of pollution and defame Hindu Dharma ?

3. In Pandharpur city, sewage water from gutters and nulla is let in river. Reporters have raised voice against this issue on number of occasions through newspapers. The Chief Officer says that Government should make funds available for underground gutters after that problem of sewage water can be resolved. Sewage water is however, let in river even now.

4. Shops selling meat are letting out sewage water mixed with blood, in river water. Despite Court’s orders, animals, vehicles are taken to river for wash and no action is taken against them.

5. In Pandharpur, thousands of liters of water is let in river by creating ditch in its basin every day. What has the municipality done to stop such pollution ? Why is there objection when there is enough water in river this year ?

6. Gujarat Government has lifted ban on the idols made of Plaster of Paris.

Advocate Nilesh Sangolkar said that the Court has suggested creating awareness towards pollution caused during festivals. It is wrong to pressurize Mandals in the name of Court’s order and we shall not allow such things. Advocate Sandip Apsingekar said that last year, few questions were asked to the Government under RTI Act which have been answered in misleading manner.

Demand to file cases against those who denigrate idols

Advice is given on donation of idols and immersion in artificial water tanks and later, the idols are thrown like trash, which is betraying Ganesh-devotees. We are going to demand filing of cases against persons denigrating idols, informed Shri. Khadye.

Highlights

1. Reporters responded in positive manner to the ‘sattvika’ idols kept on display at the venue.

2. One reporter wanted to buy ‘sattvika’ idol.
