Oscar winner Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s (Shakespeare in Love) blog “GOOP—nourish the inner aspect”, while talking about “meditation”, advises “try to smile all day”.
The latest weekly newsletter of her blog suggests: “Smile, going back to a moment when you felt truly happy and content. Bring that feeling up into your whole body and then use this same smile to smile at yourself. You can choose an area that is giving you trouble: is it your digestion, your back or your shoulder? It could be used step by step for your entire body from your fingers to your toes, or directed to a specific problem area. Every time your shoulders feel tight, smile at them. Try to smile all day and see how you feel. You can give this smile to others and you will be surprised at how this simple meditation changes your mind and that of those around you.”
“As often as you can, try to turn artificial lights off. When the sun goes down, put away your phone, turn off your computer, turn off your lights, and sit quietly”, it adds.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, commending Paltrow’s blog for discussing meditation, said that meditation was a condition of profound internal wakefulness, and added that ancient Hindu scripture Taittiriya Upanishad stated: “Meditation is Brahman (the supreme being)”.
Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that Lord Krishna told in Bhagavad-Gita: With mind and senses disciplined through meditation, bonded with the Self within, the seeker achieves tranquility and nirvana, the state of permanent peace and joy in me. Zed described pratyahara (withholding), dharna (concentration), and dhyana (intellectual contemplation) as three stages of meditation leading to samadhi (trance).
GOOP is said to be a name carved from 37-year old Gwyneth Kate Paltrow’s initials, who is also sometimes known as “part yogini”.
