SRINAGAR:Authorities have ordered closure of a missionary school in Pulwama district for five days and a probe into allegations that it was motivating people for conversion.
"The school has been closed for five days as a precautionary measure in view of tension following allegations that it was trying to motivate people for conversion under the grab of spreading education," Pulwama District Magistrate Pulwama Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo said on Monday.
He said a probe had been ordered to look into the allegations and the inquiry officer asked to submit a report within a week.
Pulwama Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajad Ahmad Khan would head the inquiry and be assisted by a nominee of the district police chief and another nominee of the principal of Government Degree College, Pulwama and Kakroo said.
He said an "ugly situation" was averted on Monday by the district administration which received information that some people were planning to attack the school.
An executive magistrate along with a police team rushed to the spot and prevented them from ransacking the building, he said.
Kakroo added that the school management had conveyed that it was in the process of terminating the services of some teachers for "moral impropriety".
