- Belgaum Municipal Corporation (BMC) allergic to saffron !
Belgaum : Police Department on behalf of Municipal Corporation undertook a drive from 13th October for removing all saffron flags displayed in city and suburban areas. The action was taken as a precaution in the background of riots staged at Chavhat Lane on the issue of display of saffron flags. The drive had to be stopped because it was opposed at Anand nagar, Vadgaon. Saffron flags were displayed all over the city on the occasion of Dassera festival and ‘Shri Durgamata Daud’; but Municipal Officers undertook the drive of removing these flags. (Many times, fanatics have staged riots in Belgaum which is a known fact; but instead of taking action against them; BMC administration removing saffron flags is cowardly and anti-Hindu. Hindus need to unite and give fight, in lawful manner, against BMC administration till justice is done to them. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
Banners and posters along with saffron flags were displayed during the State festival at various places but BMC tried to remove the saffron flags. It was opposed by residents from Anand Nagar area leading to heated arguments between the citizens and BMC employees. BMC took help of anti-encroachment squad, along with police, for removal of the saffron flags.
