Mention of Saint Chokha Mela with reference to his caste : apathy of CM
Mumbai: In the text book for 7th standard ‘Hamare Atit – 2’ devised by NCERT, history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been given in only 6 lines whereas 60 pages have been devoted for the history of Mughal invaders, that too glorifying their regime. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has undertaken a campaign all over Maharashtra against this book through various mediums.
In the said book, Saint Chokha Mela has been referred as ‘Mahaar’. Pandemonium broke out in the Legislative Assembly on this issue. The Chief Minister then woke up and he said that it would be examined whether the said text book is a part of curriculum or is complementary. Thus, he showed his apathy towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. (Any book whether it is a part of curriculum or complementary, if involves disrespect of our great national heroes, it should be withdrawn immediately and action has to be taken against its publishers and writers. The response by the Chief Minister indicates his apathy towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the glorious history of the nation ! – Editor SP)
Today, Mr. Ram Khandagale of NCP brought it to the notice of the Legislative Assembly (LA) that there was a mention of Saint Chokha Mela with reference to his caste in the said book. There was uproar in the Assembly as Mr. Ramdas Kadam of Shiv Sena gave information about the insulting treatment meted out to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Opposition demanded that the Chief Minister should make a statement on the issue. The session was, therefore, adjourned for 30 minutes. When the work was resumed, Opposition members, once again, demanded statement by the Chief Minister and there was chaos in the House. After another 20 minutes of adjournment, the Chief Minister said, “People’s sentiments have been definitely hurt due to this book. It will have to be first checked whether the book is a part of curriculum or complementary. In case the book has violated any law, action wil be taken on the publishers.” (HJS has undertaken several agitations against the insult of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the said book. Representations have been sent with signatures of the agitators to the Chief Minister, Home Minister and Governor of the State after every such agitation. News about agitation have been published in periodicals and telecast on the news channels. Even then, the Chief Minister is not aware of the issue. It is a cruel mockery of the sentiments of the people. The petty reply given by the Chief Minister of the secular (unrighteous) Congress Government, shows his indifference towards the sentiments of the people. How can such CM create respect and love among the citizens towards the Nation or keep the nation and people united? – Editor SP)
Ban anti-Shivaji book ! – Mr. Ramdas Kadam
Shri. Ramdas Kadam of Shiv Sena said to the reporters outside Lgislative Council, “Sixty pages for Mughals and 6 lines for Shivaji Maharaj besides his reference made with disrespect, is an insult of all Hindus. In the beginning of this text book, an explanation has been given in Urdu which makes one wonder whether we are in Hindustan or Pakistan. Referring to Saint Chokha Mela as ‘Mahaar’ is an insult of all Dalit, backlward communities and Saints. Cases should be filed against all officers responsible for such insult for using communal and abusive language. The book should be banned immediately. The members of LA will not tolerate such insult of Maharashtra and the Hindus will take to roads. (Congratulations to Mr. Ramdas Kadam for presenting the side of Hindus with such fervor. Only Shiv Sena MLAs talk with such vehemence. Don’t the MLAs from other parties feel anything for Shivaraya i.e. the National Leaders ? – Editor SP)

NCERT Textbook Controversy The curriculum of NCERT is often riddled with controversies. They publish History textbooks in which Bhagat Singh is called as ‘Terrorist’ and they give priority to Mughal Kings instead Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. |
