Selu (Dist. Parbhani, Maharashtra): The cows, received as offerings from devotees by the Vitthal Mandir at Pandharpur, were sold to butchers as no income was gained by the Samiti from those cows and the Government Samiti was not able to afford their maintenance. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) staged demonstrations to protest against such sale near Tehsildra’s office in Selu in Parbhani district.
The Government’s Mandir Samiti has behaved against Dharma by selling cows although cows are revered by Hindus. Such anti-Hindu Samiti has no right to look after the management of the temple. Has the Government become so poor that it cannot take care of the cows? The shameless Government Samiti which measure everything in terms of money, will not hesitate to even sell the temple if it feels that the income from the temple is not sufficient. Cases should, therefore, be filed against the Government Samiti for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and cause public fury. The Government Mandir Samiti should be dissolved and the temple should be handed over to the devotees for management. The above demands were made by HJS in this agitation.
Mr. Krushna Kate, Mr. Satish Bhandavale, Mr. Sachin Savangikar, Mr. Abasaheb Rampurkar, Mrs. Savita Pande, Miss Durga Dixit, Miss Dhanashree Pande, Miss Renuka Pande, Miss Anjani Sonnekar, Ganesh Bhise, Nandkishore Parikh and many devout Hindu men and women took part in the agitation. A representation was submitted to Tehsildar C. S. Konkani on behalf of HJS.
