Nija Vaishakh Shuddha Ekadashi, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

Mr. Guruprasad, convenor,  Hindu Janajagruti  Samiti, Mysore and Madikeri Districts and Mr. Rangaraju, President,  Arya Vysya Samaj have warned of an agitation if the District administration does not  withdraw the permission given for the meat shop near  Mr. Vasavi Kannika Parameshwari Temple in Mahadevapet,  Madikeri,  Karnataka. They were addressing the Media during the  Press Conference held in Madikeri on the 20th of May 2010.

Mr. Guruprasad mentioned that ‘Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is trying to educate Hindus about Hindutva and be united to oppose the forces which are opposing Hindutva. In recent days meat and wine shops have started cropping up in the vicinity of temples at various places and this is spoiling the sanctity of the temples. Authorities responsible for restricting them have turned a blind eye though the law is very clear about the restriction imposed on such shops.’

Mr. Rangaraju, told that Mr. Vasavi Kannikaparameshwari Temple has a history of 160 years. Trying to break the practice of keeping the wine and meat shops away from the temples some people have approached the Civic authorities for permission to open a meat shop near the temple. Temple committee  and devotees have lodged their protest to  the authorities not to permit the shop within 200 Meters of the Temple. But  the civic authorities seem to have ignored this. The presence of  meat shop will create hard ship to the devotees coming to the temple, which is the centre of devotion not only for the Arya Vysya Community but also other devotees. In case the authorities go ahead by giving the permission an agitation will be started he added.

Mrs. Gombe Appachu Convenor of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Madikeri, Mr. G.T. Raghavendra, Mr. Chetan District convenor of Bajrang Dal were also present in the Press Meet.

Highlights:

Considering the importance of the issue the daily papers Mysore Mithra, Vijay Karnataka, Praja Vani, Shakthi,  Andolana covered the news prominently. The local Coorg TV Channel also gave coverage of the Press Meet.
