Saif and Kareena name their son Taimur, but who was Taimur Sultan ?

Bollywood couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan this morning and India Today received a statement from Saif and Kareena which said that the baby’s name is Taimur Ali Khan.

But do you know who the other famous, rather infamous, Taimur was ?

  1. Taimur or Timur was a Turko-Mongol conquerer who brought most of the Muslim-ruled parts of Central Asia and India under his control in the 14th century.
  2. Timur was the founder of the Timurid Empire and Timurid dynasty which survived until 1857.
  3. Timur means iron. He was born in 1336 in a Persian city, now known as Shahrisabz and is situated in modern day Uzbekistan.
  4. Timur came to be widely known as Tamerlane, the European derivation of his Persian nickname Timur-e-Lang that translates to Timur the Lame.
  5. Tamerlane’s tomb excavation by Russian archeologists confirmed that he had two fingers missing from his right hand.
  6. It is said that Taimur’s tomb had “When I rise from the dead, the world shall tremble” inscribed on it and that his coffin read: “Whoever opens my tomb shall unleash an invader more terrible than I”.
  7. Taimur could be considered a warlord. The area he conquered then now comprises Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, large parts of Turkey and Syria, and the north-western portion of India (Delhi), says owlcation.com
  8. Taimur’s army killed at least 17 million people.
  9. Since he was not a descendent of Genghis Khan, Taimur could never become the Mongol emperor. And he couldn’t get acceptance as a Muslim because he was not a descendent of Muhammad.
  10. When he turned his focus to then India, Taimur slaughtered people saying it is a holy war against the Hindu religion.
