Sri Siva Vishnu Temple in Lanham (Maryland, USA), a prominent Hindu temple of America, has honored Hindu statesman Rajan Zed for his services to the community.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, was garlanded; a shawl was presented to him; and Sanskrit mantras were recited by Temple priests to bless him during his visit on May 25. Ms. Mythili Bachu, Temple President, was also present.

Rajan Zed is one of the panelists for “On Faith”, a prestigious interactive conversation on religion produced jointly by Newsweek and washingtonpost.com. He has been awarded “World Interfaith Leader Award” by National Association of Interchurch and Interfaith Families.

Sri Siva Vishnu Temple, one of the largest in western hemisphere, incorporates Mayan, Pallava, Vijayanagara, Kerala and the South Canara styles of temple architecture. It was built with the blessings of the Shankaracharyas, under the direction of eminent temple architect Dr. Ganapati Sthapati, and houses several Sannidhis with deities like Andal, Ayyappa, Durga, Ganesha, Hanuman, Karthikeya, Krishna, Lakshmi, Navagrahas, Parvathi, Rama, Saraswathi, Siva, Sudarsana, Venkateshwara, and Vishnu.

Open to all, Sri Siva Vishnu Temple holds free-of-charge seminars on Vedanta, Upanishads, ethics, and Hinduism; classes on meditation, Sanskrit, astrology, Vedas, yoga, Hindu philosophy and culture, and world religions; discussion series on Bhagavad-Gita, Puranas, Bhagavatam, Ramayan; daily-weekly-monthly pujas (worship); and discourses on Hindu scriptures and philosophy. It also participates in various interfaith events in the region. Its children’s educational programs include recitation of shlokas, Puranas storytelling, and performing of pujas. It makes sandwiches for the homeless fortnightly and offers yoga for seniors.
