Pontiffs meet decides on fomation of Hindu Religious Federation

Bangalore (Karnataka): Federation of Hindu Religious Organisations, Bangalore, Hindu Acharya Sabha, Delhi, Uttara Kannada Hindu religious temple federation Sirsi jointly organized a State level Public meet to discuss the issue of Temple nationalization (Taking over Temple by Government) at the Ragi Gudda Temple in Bangalore, which was attended by Temple Priests and  Trustees Devotees and many Pontiffs.

The main Pontiffs who participated were

  1. H.H. Gangadharendhra Saraswathi Swamiji (Swarnavalli Mutt)
  2. H.H. Vishvesha Thirtha Padangalu (Pejawar Mutt)
  3. H.H.Balagangadharanath Swamiji (Adichunchanagiri Mutt)
  4. H.H. Shadaksharimuni Swamiji (Adijambhava Peetha, Hiriyur)
  5. H.H.Sachidananda Swayamprakash Mahaswamiji (Adishankaracharya Sharada Sri Lakshmi Nrasimaha Peetha,Hariharapura)
  6. H.H. Nirmalanathananda Mahaswamiji (Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Chikkaballapur)
  7. H.H. Dayananda Saraswathi Mahaswamiji (Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Coimbatore)

The Meet was also attended by following Cabinet Ministers :

  1. Mr. V.S. Acharya, Honourable Home and Endowments Minister, Government of Karnataka,
  2. Mr. Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, Honourable Minister for Higher Primary Education, Government of Karnataka.

The meeting was called to discuss the Justice Rama Jois Committee findings which was set up to look into the aspects of the Temple Take over issues and come to a suitable conclusion in connection with the Temple takeover act.
The meeting decided that an apolitical Hindu religious federation has to be named.

H.H. Paramananda Saraswathi in his address demanded that there should be no person from other religion in the administration of Temples. The temple funds should be utilized for its own purposes and for Hindu Unity.

H.H. Sree Sree Sree Gangadharendhra Saraswathi Swamiji (Swarnavalli Mutt) indicated that that the right of appointing the Chief of the federation should  rest with the Pontiffs of different Mutts. The temples are the heart of the Hindu society just like the face for a man he added.

H.H. Sree Sree Sree Swayamprakash Sachidananda Swayamprakash Mahaswamiji (Adishankaracharya Sharada Sri Lakshmi Nrasimaha Peetha,Hariharapura) said that we should that  first we are Hindus followed later by our caste, creed etc. and for  well being of the Society develop our temples.

The following resolutions were passed :

1. After taking suggestions from the Pontiffs a separate Law has to be framed for Mutts.
2. The formation of Hindu Religious Federation.
3. The President of Hindu Religious Federation should be a pontiff (peethadipathi).
4. Grants have to be made to Temples with less income.
5.The salary of priests has to be deposited directly into their  Bank accounts.
6. there should be an annual meeting.
7. The ancestral rights of the priests has to reserved.
8. The temples with earning of less than Rs5  lakhs will have the right to keep such reservation.

Mr. Subramanian Swamy, President of Janata Party told that the temples which are run incompetently when taken over by the government have to handed back in 3 years time. But it is unfortunate that the Tirupathi temple taken over by the Government in the year 1933 is yet to handed. Now when the government itself is misappropriating the temple funds who can control such actions.

Mr.V.S Acharya said that we should be prepared for the changing times of the new generation and hence the need for the new law regarding Temple Takeover. He also said that the funds will be retained at the temple only and periodically be subject to Audit and Budget.
