Hindus Protest against Geelani's Amarnath statement

Hindus elsewhere in India should learn from Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti that how Hindus should fight for their rights ! Also it is shameful for Hindus as they have to agitate for their religious rights in Hindu majority India !

Jammu (J&K): Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti Saturday threatened repeat of 2008 economic blockade of Kashmir and asked the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani to stop interfering into the religious issues of Hindus.

Leela Karan Sharma, the former convenor of the Samiti, an organisation that enforced economic blockade of Kashmir following the agitation against transfer of State’s forest land to the Amarnath shrine board in 2008, said: “Geelani is nobody to suggest government about the duration of Amarnath yatra. The time, place and duration of yatra are given only by Shri Amarnath shrine board and the representatives of Hindu religious organizations.”

Geelani had Friday asked the State government to restrict Amarnath yatra to 15 days or be ready for Valley-wide protests.

Sharma said if Kashmir protests on the duration of yatra, “It will be reciprocated in Jammu with equal intensity the way we did it in 2008”. aid: “We won’t let anybody interfere into our religious affairs and Geelani has no right to meddle in religious issues of Hindus.”

Sharma said Amarnath yatra, being pilgrim tourism, was important for Kashmir’s tourism industry. “Kashmiri people earn their livelihood from yatris. The hotel owners, shikara wallas and other people always benefit from this yatra.”

He said separatists were conspiring against Amarnath yatra. “Every year when the yatra begins and Kashmir’s tourism starts kicking up, separatists create some issue to hamper the yatra. It seems some vested interests are behind all this.”

Meanwhile, activists of the Shri Ram Sena (SRS) held a protest demonstration here today against Hurriyat (G) chairman. The protesters were led by state president SRS Rajiv Mahajan.

“Geelani has perhaps forgotten the struggle of Jammuites against the government’s decision to revoke the land transfer in 2008. We want to remind him that Kashmir is not his personal property. He is misleading the people of Kashmir for his own interests,” he said.
“Hindus will not tolerate any change in Amarnath yatra duration,” he said
