Centenary celebrations of the famous ‘leap’ of Veer Savarkar

Nashik (Maharashtra): Today, rulers get their statues sculpted during their life-time so that they are remembered by the people; but revolutionaries never did that because their great deeds and sacrifice made people remember them. India has not gained freedom by running a spinning wheel (charkha); it happened due to the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries. The bravery shown by those revolutionaries should be remembered by all generations. We should become fearless and like Shivaji Maharaj and Savarkar have the policy of ‘tit for tat’; only then the terrorism will be eliminated from this country. The above candid views were expressed by Smt. Himanitai Savarkar, the President of all-India Hindu Mahasabha.

The incident of Veer Savarkar leaping in the sea of Marseilles completed 100 years on 8th July 2010. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had organized a program at his birthplace, Bhagur (Dist. Nashik) to commemorate Veer Savarkar’s valour and ignite a spark of patriotism among the citizens. Smt. Himanitai Savarkar was speaking in that program. The program was also attended by the renowned orator and litterateur Dr. Satchidananda Shevade and Mr. Sunil Ghanavat of HJS as the other dignitaries. The program started with lighting of lamp and garlanding the pictures of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Veer Savarkar. About 500 devout Hindus attended the program.

Congress Government has always hated Savarkar ! – Dr. Shevade

Dr. Satchidananda Shevade said, “The place Veer Savarkar was born is a place of pilgrimage and all of you living here are very fortunate. The forts of Shivaji Maharaj are our national pilgrimage places. Today’s youth, instead of applying the soil to their foreheads, write their names on the walls and thus show disregard towards the places of pilgrimage. What did Veer Savarkar get from the Congress Government? Only hatred ! The youth must have before them ideals like the bravery and valour shown by revolutionaries and ‘Hindu-teja’; but their ideals are film heroes and heroines which is bad luck of this country.”

This country has gained freedom due to sacrifices made by the revolutionaries ! – Mr. Sunil Ghanavat

Mr. Ghanavat said, “This country could be freed due to the sacrifices made by several revolutionaries. Today, we have conveniently forgotten them. Today, we do not get to study the true history of these revolutionaries which is our misfortune. All Hindus must insist for imprinting pictures like slaying of Afzal Khan by Chhatrapati Shivaraya and Veer Savarkar’s leap at Marseilles on the coins.”
