Mumbai : There is one 76 years old Kaleshwarnath Hanuman Temple on T. J. Road in Sewree which has been branded as unauthorized by Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) as per the decision taken by Supreme Court and a notice was served to this temple about demolition. Accordingly, on 23rd March at 9.00 a.m. the temple was to be demolished; but before the squad of MMC could reach there, hundreds of devotees gathered in front of the temple. MMC officers avoided going to temple area considering the outbreak of devotees. The whole area was resonating with acclamation of Shriram and Hanuman. Police tried to intervene and pacify the devotees. Kaleshwarnath Hanuman Temple was built by Mafatlal Industries in the year 1931 on T. J Marg and soon it came to be known as a ‘jagrut devasthan’.

All festivals and religious festivals are celebrated in the temple regularly with great enthusiasm. The temple is constantly frequented by devotees. Hundreds of devotees reached the temple in the morning of 23rd March when they heard about proposed demolition of this temple. MMC has set up two categories viz. ‘A’ and ‘B’ for temples built before 1960 and later. This temple was built in 1931 and there are solid proofs of the same; still MMC has included this temple under ‘B’ category, informed the local municipal corporator Sachin Padaval. He also informed about a petition to be filed against MMC action and for cancellation of demolition orders.
