Goa: Inquiry in only 9 out of 47 cases completed, lodged for damaged religious places

Congress Govt. from Goa, apathetic towards inquiry into cases of damage caused to religious places

Panaji (Goa): There have been 47 complaints registered with the police reporting damage caused to religious place during the period 2007 to June 2010 in the State of Goa.

Out of these 47 cases, police have been able to complete inquiry only in 9 cases. Among the 9 cases, accused in 2 cases, have been declared innocent and only 2 accused in 2 cases have been punished; in 5 complaints, legal cases are going on.

The above information was given by Home Minister Ravi Naik while answering a ‘starred’ question posed by MLA, Dayanand Mandrekar. (Out of 47, only in 9 cases, investigations are over i.e. less than even 1/5th cases, investigations are complete. This shows the competency of the Goa police ! – Editor SP)

The complaints lodged regarding damage to places of worship from the year 2007 include 28 complaints by Hindus, 17 by Christians and 1 each by Muslims and Jains. In the year 2009, 13 religious places were damaged; out of which in 3 cases, the police have been able to complete the inquiry and accused in 2 cases have been declared as innocent.(If accused in 2 cases turned out to be innocent, where are the real culprits? Does that mean that the inquiry conducted by the police was wrong? Should the police not re-start the inquiry? – Editor SP)

Inquiry into only one case out of the 7 cases registered in the year 2007 could be completed and in remaining cases, legal action is going on. Out of the 18 cases of damage reported in the year 2008, inquiry in 2 cases is complete. Out of the 9 incidents of damage caused to religious places reported upto June 2010 in the current year, inquiry has been completed only in 3 cases.
