Navi Mumbai: Unanimous decision was taken to form a federation of temples and religious institutions in Maharashtra for protection of temples as the unrighteous Congress Government is trying to take over their management by passing an Act to this effect. A meeting was held in Zulelal Temple in Vashi which was attended by more than 60 office bearers of temples from various districts like Mumbai, Thane and Raigad etc. including Mr. Pravin Kanvinde, the President of ‘GSB Temple Trust’, Mr. Manannur Ravindran, the President of Keralite Mandir Paripalan Samiti, Mr. Ramesh Shinde, the spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) for the States of Maharashtra and Gujarat, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district-coordinator of HJS, Mr. Abhay Vartak, the spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha, Mr. Chanchal Chaudhary, the manager of Sree Dhakaleshwar Temple Trust and Mr. Motilal Jain of Jain Temples Organization.
First, the temples and religious institutions in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Raigad area will be brought together followed with Mumbai and other districts to form a federation and its branches will be opened in different districts.

The meeting began with Mr. Vatkar explaining the purpose of the meeting and made an appeal to all participants to come together for preventing attacks, in various forms, on temples.  Mr. Kanvinde said, “The Government’s eye is on the money collected in temples; therefore, it wants to take temples under its control. This is an attack on temples and should be strongly opposed.”

Mr. Ramesh Shinde, the spokesperson of HJS said, “The State Government of Goa has declared temples which are more than hundreds of years old as unauthorized. Once the Governments takes over the management of these temples, it will do whatever it wants. HJS will always be with the federation for protection of temples.” He also explained how the Government is misusing money donated by the devotees at Sree Saibaba Temple in Shirdi, Sree Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai and Sree Vitthal Temple at Pandharpur.

Mr. Chanchal Chaudhary, the manager of Dhakaleshwar Temple said, “Hindus must use the money collected in temples for ‘Dharmakarya’, education and medical facilities. Hindus should unite.” Mr. Ravindran of Kerala Mandir Committee said, “The Congress Government has hatched a conspiracy to pass anti-Hindu Acts like ‘Takeover of Hindu Temples’ and ‘Anti-superstitions’ in the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In other States, such laws will be easily implemented; therefore, it is necessary to oppose them through the medium of federation.”

The function to set up the first branch of Maharashtra Mandir and religious institutions Federation will be held on 22nd August 2010 at 4.00 p.m. at Arya Samaj Mandir Hall, Sector 9-A, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. An appeal was made to everyone to attend this function as a Hindu, forgetting one’s post, place, party etc. for the protection of temples.
